WHEN VALUES PLAY BALL A TRUE STORY

We heard about an incredible true story that creatively talks about a way of “putting values on your playing field” which we wanted to share because it is much like our global campaign, “Give a face to values” in that values are not just words, but people and actions.

After ten years of service in the US Navy, combining active duty and maritime football program development as coach, Clayton Kendrick-Holmes returned to his civilian life. When he was offered a position as coach for the Maritime University in the Bronx, he took on the challenge knowing it was for him, but it required reviving the entire football program. SUNY Maritime hadn’t had a team for 16 years.

Liliana Cosi – the interview

She has a career glittered with prestigious awards, from the David of Donatello to the Golden Caravel, to the Italian Superstars award from New York. She is the foreign ballerina with the highest number of performances in the USSR. She has been celebrated as the étoile of La Scala Theatre in Milan since 1968, and at the age of 23 she was already at the Moskow’s Bolshoi, as prima ballerina in the classic ballets: Swan Lake, Romeo and Juliet, The Nutcracker, Sleeping Beauty and Don Quixote, to name just a few.

MICHELANGELO’S DAVID – “The beauty and the courage”

The Statue of David by Michelangelo is one of the most well- known symbols of the Renaissance, merging the idea of beauty with those of courage and strength. IT CELEBRATES BOLDNESS, BRAVERY AND STRENGTH IN THE FACE OF CHALLENGES.

This sculpture tells the story of a boy who chose to live wholeheartedly what he believed in, a boy who dared the impossible by facing Goliath the giant. All the odds were against him. The two armies were marshaled at the opposite sides of the mountain, but the Israeli army was frightened; in forty days nobody had dared to make a step forward and take up the challenge of the Philistine champion.

A spark to illuminate our roots

A country losing touch with its own history is like an old man losing his glasses, a distressing sight, at once vulnerable, unsure, and easily disoriented.
George Walden

What does “Renaissance” remind you of?

For Italy, it was an age of EXCELLENCE, CREATIVITY AND BEAUTY, and Italy has overcome many challenges since then. We believe that all the ingredients of that formula are still there, in all of us.

FOR A NEW RENAISSANCE

500 years ago, in the height of the Italian Renaissance, the quintessential painting “The Creation of Adam” became a part of our lives across borders of culture, creed and country, thanks to the Italian master, Michelangelo. Yet, Michelangelo was one of many Italian greats that established Italy as a great country throughout its history.

GIVE A FACE TO VALUES IN OUR CITIES

On Saturday, October 1st, we took it to the street. (ie: The Duomo square in the heart of Milano). We organized a Flash Mob involving more than one hundred “faces”, which was reported in the Italian media: see for instance http://milano.repubblica.it/dettaglio-news/milano-17:40/5891

These are the values we are standing for:

Integrity, Courage, Respect, Honesty, Forgiveness, Loyalty, Love, Generosity, Kindness, Optimism, Committment, Thankfulness, Patience.

Steve Jobs – The three stories of his life

For some time we had in mind to publish the comments one of the most important public appearances of Steve Jobs.

He is no longer with us …but his words will live on with us and will keep inspiring meditation and action.

With great respect we share them here.
It was June 12, 2005 when Steve Jobs, the father of Apple and Pixar, gave his keynote speech to a large audience of undergraduates at Stanford University, and for all listeners, it was deeply moving and riveting.
